PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is aimed at individuals entering the pharmaceutical sales field. 'Pharmaceutical' includes medicines, medical products, medical devices, scheduled substances, veterinary medicines, products and devices, in accordance with the relevant current legislation. Individuals credited with this standard will have an understanding of the South African health care environment with special reference to managed health care. They will be able to apply their knowledge of the environment in order to be an effective pharmaceutical sales representative.

The learner credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Explain the development of the South African health care environment in order to operate effectively as a pharmaceutical sales representative.
  • Explain the principles of health care funding in order to operate effectively as a pharmaceutical sales representative.
