PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The purpose of this unit standard is to enable qualifying learners to conduct themselves professionally within the sport, recreation or fitness workplace through a knowledge and understanding of the environment in which they work their scope of practice, the role of the stakeholders and future developments of the industries of sport, recreation, fitness, leisure and wellness.

Replaces operate professionally in a fitness environment.

In particular, on completion of this unit standard, the learner is able to:
  • Provide details on careers in sport, recreation and fitness in order to make informed career choices.
  • Comply with legal and ethical business practices with regard to scopes of practice and professional codes of conduct.
  • Identify matters relating to the negligence and liability and comply with the legal requirements of the profession.

    A learner undertaking this unit standard is assumed to be competent in:

    The need for strict adherence to a Professional code of conduct is explained in the context of the sport, recreation or fitness work environment or job description. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Legal and ethical practices are explained relative to a professional code of conduct. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The consequences of non-adherence to a prescribed code of conduct for the individual, the organisation and the client are explained in terms of legal and organisational requirements. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Identify matters relating to the negligence and liability and comply with the legal requirements of the profession.

    Legal and ethical implications are considered in terms of use of trade marks, logos and advertising when selecting and using equipment or clothing.
