This unit standard is intended for people who are responsible for displaying merchandise visually in a wholesale or retail outlet.

These people need to understand the principals of visual merchandising in order to be able to display merchandise visually.

Qualifying learners will be capable of:
  • Evaluating focal points in a visual display.
  • Evaluating the use of scale and proportion in a visual display.
  • Evaluating the principles of design in a visual display.
  • Evaluating the use of lighting in visual display.

    The principles of design are explained according to the fundamentals of visual arts.

  • Scale and proportion, focal points, rhythm, line, texture, balance, pattern, shape, colour and lighting.
     

  • ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Design approaches are described in terms of the lifestyle image to be portrayed. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Design approaches may include, but are not limited to:
  • Classic, contemporary and modern.
     

  • ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The application of design and design principals is evaluated in a presented display.

    Evaluate the use of lighting in visual display. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The effect of lighting on visual merchandising displays is explained in terms of the impact it has on the display. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The lighting used by the organisation is explained as applicable to the organisation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The visual merchandiser's role in maintaining lighting for displays is explained in terms of safety, organisational and legal requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The use of lighting is evaluated in a presented display. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard and the related Exit Level Outcomes of the Qualification must be accredited by the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance (ETQA) body.
  • External Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.
