PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The purpose of this unit Standard is to enable the learner to operate a closed circuit television (CCTV) system effectively. The individual should develop competency in monitoring all prescribed areas.

On achievement of this unit standard the learner will understand and be able to:
  • Explain the role of monitoring and monitoring procedures.
  • Operate a closed circuit television system excluding irregularities.
  • Deal with malfunctions.

    Gaming Board and company procedures for closed circuit television system operation and monitoring of casino activities are detailed thoroughly. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The importance of monitoring each area of a gaming environment is outlined in the light of compliance. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Different procedures to be conducted when monitoring each area of a gaming environment are detailed as these pertain to relevant organisational policy and requirements as well as compliance. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Reasons for recordings being completed in real-time are detailed as these pertain to the accuracy of the monitoring process.

    Operate a closed circuit television system excluding irregularities.

    Tape change times, damaged tapes and tape storage are dealt with according to company policy. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Methods of reducing criminal activity using surveillance equipment are identified, described and utilised efficiently when operating a closed circuit television system. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The function and purpose of a video tape library is properly explained to ensure its efficient use. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    A closed circuit television system workstation is utilised correctly according to appropriate procedure. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Daily system checks and procedures are completely according to company policy and procedure. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    Specific equipment is identified and properly used to provide the coverage specified by a Gaming Board. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 7 
    Cameras are operated according to appropriate operational procedures.

    System malfunctions are handled in accordance with appropriate policy and procedure.

    Other malfunctions are appropriately dealt with and resolved to aid in the smooth operation of the department and organisation.

    The requirements of the Gaming Board and organisation are carefully complied with when dealing with malfunctions.
