PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The purpose of this unit standard is to enable the learner to develop competent usage in dealing with fraud and security issues pertaining to the smart card system.

On achievement of this unit standard the learner will understand and be able to:
  • Operate the smart card system and deal with malfunctions.
  • Deal with fraud and security issues pertaining to the smart card system.
  • Ensure good customer service.

    All procedures in the operation of a smart card system are listed and described accurately.

  • Includes but is not limited to loading credits, redeeming credits, system generated reports, identification of smart cards.

    The smart card system is operated efficiently following the correct procedures.

    Smart card systems and transaction reporting is understood and outlined according to Gaming Board, National and provincial legislation and company procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Reasons for the use of smart card systems as an alternative to currency are explained using examples of the benefits to clients and the casino.

    Deal with malfunctions.

    Malfunctions pertaining to a smart card system are dealt with according to appropriate policy and procedure.

    A range of possible malfunctions are described and listed as these apply to smart cards. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Reasons are given for certain decisions made regarding a range of problems pertaining to the smart card system.

  • Includes but is not limited to malfunctions, broken cards.

    Malfunctions which cannot be dealt with are referred to the appropriate channels where appropriate.

    Ways to protect the company against fraudulent use of smart cards and tampering are described in preventing such activity.

    The importance of maintaining security at all times is stressed as it pertains to the operation of a smart card system.
