PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The purpose of this unit standard is to enable the following of relevant procedures when balancing the float safe for a slots area. The individual should develop competent usage of the organisational security procedures when balancing floats.

On achievement of this unit standard the learner will understand and be able to:
  • Follow relevant procedures when balancing the safe float.
  • Apply security procedures when balancing the safe float.
  • Maintain and account for safe value items and contents.
  • Analyse and reconcile cashier float.

    The safe float is balanced according to relevant procedures.

    Procedures:
  • Includes but is not limited to sorting, batching notes, sorting, batching coins, checking for forgeries, checking for tampering of hopper bags, proving notes, chips, checking and accounting for stored batches of coin or tokens, securing the float, security procedures, safe marker procedures, accepting the hard/soft count, banking.

    Procedures for issuing and receiving floats are outlined and applied in the workplace.

    Procedures for acceptance of the hard and soft counts are outlined and applied in the workplace.

    Gaming Board and company procedures are described as they impact on controlling safe floats.

    The impact of forgery is described as it relates to the casino industry as a whole, and cashiers in particular.

    Company policy on dealing with forged currency is described and applied where necessary.

    The value of the safe contents is proved using appropriate equipment and procedures.

  • Includes but is not limited to note verifiers, coin scales, coin counters, note counters, coin batching equipment, card swipes, and time/date stamps, signatories on documentation, displaying and proving casino chips, reconciling promotional vouchers.

    All value items in the safe inventory are checked and verified using the appropriate counting equipment and procedures.

    Safe contents:
  • Includes but is not limited to loose notes, unclipped bundles, chips, trays, hopper bags, loose coins, safe markers, cash canisters, sealed cash.

    Value items are sorted and stored according to organisational requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Details of all value items in the safe inventory are captured into a manual or electronic information system.

    Adequate float levels and mix are maintained according to business requirements.

    The importance of checking and reconciling opening floats and immediately reporting variances is explained, highlighting the consequences of not doing so.

    The importance of having more than one signatory is explained with respect to the need for verified accuracy of float inventories.

    Unreconciled float balance errors are traced using the appropriate procedures.

    Reasons for variances are listed and included in a written report.

    Variances are reported immediately to the appropriate authority.
