PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The purpose of this unit standard is to enable the learner to understand his/her role within the slots department and how it relates to individuals in other departments. The learner must understand how performance in the slots department affects other departments and base performance on this understanding.

On achievement of this unit standard the learner will understand and be able to:
  • Explain the staffing structure of the slots department.
  • Describe the interrelationship between the various support departments.
  • Stress the importance of good communication and teamwork within the slots department.

    It is assumed that learners are competent in:

    The conditions of service for employees is explained through the use of appropriate examples. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Working days, leave days, parking, uniforms, working hours and shifts.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Promotion requirements within the slots department are explained for the different categories of employees. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    An explanation is given of the need to consider the staff complement carefully before appointing additional staff focusing on the disadvantages for the organization and employees of overstaffing and understaffing. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The staffing complement, the chain of command and reporting structures of the slots department are explained using an organogram indicating the specific positions within the slots department.

    Describe the interrelationship between the various support departments.
