PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for learners within the Safety in Society and Sovereignty of the State sub-fields who work in the bomb disposal environment and who are required to dispose of arms, weaponry, munitions and drug cashes. This unit standard will enable learners to plan to neutralise caches, demonstrate physical approaches of a cache and demonstrate the lifting of a cache. The competencies achieved by the learner in this Unit Standard will lead to a safer society for South African citizens.

A learner credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Conduct planning.
  • Approach a cache.
  • Lift a cache.

    A description is given of aspects to be taken into account and how they influence the neutralising of the cache. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Aspects may include but are not limited to safety, terrain, time of day, weather, and likely content of the cache.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    An appreciation is made in terms of aspects to be taken into account. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Steps in neutralising caches are appreciated for inclusion in the plan. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Steps must also include the safety precautions.

    A plan is compiled taking into account all aspects and steps for the neutralisation.

    Physical approaches are analysed in given case scenarios.

    An approach is conduct which is relevant to the cache.

    A cache is secured in a controlled environment.
