PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for learners within the Safety in Society and Sovereignty of the State sub-fields who work in the bomb disposal environment and who are required to tactically applying explosives for the breaching of obstacles. This unit standard will enable learners to scrutinize the target and or obstacle, make and appreciation and by means of explosive charges breach the obstacle while applying safety at all times.

A learner credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Analyse the obstacle.
  • Prepare breaching charges.
  • Apply breaching techniques.

    It is assumed that the learner has the following knowledge and skills:
  • Communication at NQF Level 4.
  • Physical Science at NQF Level 4.

    A description is given of aspects to be taken into account and how they influence the breaching of obstacles.

    Aspects may include but are not limited to safety, terrain, time of day, weather, and target or obstacle.

    An appreciation is made in terms of aspects to be taken into account.

    Steps in neutralizing obstacles are appreciated for inclusion in the plan.
