PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Individuals credited with this unit standard will demonstrate the ability to pack pharmaceutical products in accordance with facility procedures and legal requirements. The individual will further be able to participate in the quality control of the packing process. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
It is assumed that the individual is competent in:
  • Communication at NQF Level 2.
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 2.
  • The unit standards:
    > ID 256485: Apply ethical and legal behaviour in the pharmaceutical and health environment.
    > ID 256475: Explain pharmaceutical concepts and terms. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    Packing is read to include pre-packing and repacking.

    The packing instruction is obtained and validated as per organisational policy and procedures.

    Relevant requirements are complied with at all times.

    Relevant requirements include regulations, dress codes, safety requirements, legal requirements and personal hygiene.

    The packing area and equipment are prepared according to organisational procedures.

    Bulk products and packaging materials are obtained in accordance with organisational requirements.

    Where applicable, labels are selected and relevant authorisation is obtained as per organisational requirements.

    Authorisation for line opening is obtained and recorded prior to commencing work. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Line opening is initiated, monitored and documented in accordance with quality assurance requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Verification and authorisation of the line opening processes are obtained from the appropriate persons. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The product is packed according to instruction. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Deviations are identified, recorded and reported to an authorised person. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    Corrective actions are implemented according to instruction.

    Where applicable, labels are affixed to containers in the appropriate manner.
