PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners who demonstrate competence as described in the outcomes of this unit standard will be able to monitor and control the process from bark receiving to bark storage.

    Instrumentation includes the key process indicators, control valves and controllers used to monitor and control the process.

    Specifications are defined by machine or mill operating instructions. Specifications may include, but are not limited to, wood species, freshness of material, level of decomposition, tramp material and moisture level.

    Typical raw material problems and its impact on costs and the stored bark properties are discussed in terms of the purpose of the process. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Corrective action to be taken in the case of non-conforming raw materials is discussed in accordance with workplace procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    Product variations are evaluated and corrective action taken in accordance with workplace procedures.

    Typical equipment problems within the bark handling and storage process are discussed and solutions offered in accordance to workplace procedures.

    Equipment problems include but are not limited to mechanical malfunctions, electrical problems and problems encountered with bulk moving and storage equipment.

    Variations in the product are evaluated and corrective action taken in accordance with workplace procedures.
