UNIT STANDARD RANGE |
Off-the-road (OTR) machines/equipment includes but is not limited to military applications, cranes, earthmoving equipment and mining equipment.
'Wheel' refers to the entire wheel assembly, including but not limited to components such as rims, inner and outer flanges, bead seat band and lock rings but excludes the tyre. The context will determine whether the entire wheel and tyre assembly will be removed and replaced, or whether the wheel will remain secured to the machine/equipment hub, while only the tyre is removed and replaced. The learner must be assessed in both of these contexts in order to meet the requirements of this unit standard. |

Relevant tools and equipment are selected and used to fit the tyre in accordance with wheel and tyre type and manufacturers' specifications. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 |
The tyre is inflated to tyre manufacturer's recommended operating pressure while secured in a safety retaining device, and the valve core and cap are replaced. |

Refitting activities are performed safely without damage or injury to self, fellow workers, tools and equipment, tube and tyres, wheels, machines/equipment or the environment. |

Machine/equipment is safely lowered and jacks and stands are removed in accordance with manufacturers' procedures. |
