PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
The learner achieving this unit standard will be able to take all relevant practical steps necessary to transport patients suffering from the effects of incidents experienced in the aquatic environment, so that they are rescued and receive effective after-care. In doing so, the learner will liaise with all role players who might affect the services provided including backup services, in an endeavour to ensure optimum support for the patient. The qualifying learner is expected to perform the necessary functions with responsibility, efficiency and insight.
The training of lifeguards to perform the function of ensuring optimum transport of patients will greatly benefit members of the public who engage in aquatic activities but experience incidents that threaten their well-being or life. This in turn can be expected to benefit the sports and recreation sub-fields greatly. On achievement of this unit standard the learner will understand and be able to: |
