This unit standard will be useful to people who are responsible for installing survey points in any underground environment.

People credited with this unit standard are able to:

  • Locate the position of the survey point.
  • Install the survey point.
  • Complete the work sequence.

    The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for the social and economic transformation and contribute to the upliftment and economic growth of the mining and minerals sector.

    This unit standard is intended to promote general skills, knowledge and demonstrating an understanding of the installation of survey points the mining and minerals sector in order to ensure knowledgeable and informed workers.

    Tools and equipment required for the task are verified for use in accordance with manufacturers' specifications.

    Personal protective equipment required for the task is verified for use in accordance with manufacturers' specifications.

    Permission to enter the work place, if necessary, is obtained in accordance with task specific requirements.

    Workplace hazards and sub-standard conditions are explained and, if found during continuous examination, dealt with in accordance with task specific requirements.

    Work related hazards and associated risks are explained and identified, and if found, dealt with in accordance with legal and task specific requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Personal protective equipment is used throughout in accordance with manufacturers' specifications. The consequences of non-compliance are explained. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Required position of the survey point5 is located in accordance with the job and surveyor's instructions. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Required position includes positions selected at random and pre-determined positions.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Communicated instructions are interpreted and responded to in accordance with task specific requirements.

    Communicated instructions include instructions by means of hand signals, verbal communication, radio transmission, cellular phone.

    Evidence is required of hand signals and any two (2) of the other communication methods.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against the qualification must be registered as an assessor with the relevant Education, Training, Quality, Assurance (ETQA) Body, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable the achievement of this qualification must be accredited as a provider with the relevant Education, Training, Quality, Assurance (ETQA) Body, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Assessment and moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant Education, Training, Quality, Assurance (ETQA) Body, or by an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA, according to the ETQA's policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation.
  • Moderation must include both internal and external moderation of assessments, unless ETQA policies specify otherwise. Moderation should also encompass achievement of the competence described in the associated unit standards.
