PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The learner achieving this unit standard in combination with other content-related standards will be able to establish a commitment, policy and planning to achieve racial, disability and gender equity through sport, fitness and leisure programmes. The learner will achieve this through collecting information on participation and employee levels at the organisations and draw conclusions on representivity. Furthermore, the learner will be able to understand legislation and moral imperatives for equity policies.

This unit standard will provide the learner with the competence to understand the issues surrounding diversity at the sport, fitness and leisure organisations. The qualifying learner will be better equipped to develop strategies and policies to be implemented at sport, fitness and leisure organisations to ensure the eradication of inequitable practices within the legal framework of South Africa.

Competent learners will provide the environment for quality experiences to participants and thus strengthen the profession in general.

In particular, on completion of this unit standard, the learner is able to:
  • Develop a written statement or policy on equity, which reflects the aims and objectives of the organisation.
  • Ensure that all communities are aware of the organisations commitment to equity.
  • Develop a profile and assess equity training needs of all staff of the organisation.
  • Develop a complaints and disciplinary procedure.
  • Assess personal and the organisation's values, beliefs and philosophy.
  • Apply appropriate cross-cultural management skills.
