PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for learners in the field of law enforcement, who will be able to demonstrate the functioning of the Vehicle Circulation System in relation to vehicle crime investigation. Learners will be able to make special references to types of functions available within the vehicle circulation system. They will be able to understand the capturing, updating, circulation and cancellation of information pertaining to vehicles on the system. This unit standard will enable learners to use the Vehicle Circulation System in an efficient and effective manner during vehicle crime investigations.

A learner credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Explain the types of functions available within the circulation system.
  • Assess information of a vehicle for circulation and capturing purposes.
  • Assess information of a vehicle for updating purposes.
  • Cancel circulation of a vehicle.
  • Conduct enquiries and audits to support the investigation process.

    The circulation system is described in terms of its functions.

    Functions refer to the Property Control System, Circulation/Cancellation, SAPVIN (SAPS Vehicle Identification Number) and Clearance.

    Each function of the circulation system is explained in terms of their purpose and uses.

    Information is assessed for capturing onto the circulation system.

    Cancel circulation of a vehicle.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Reasons why vehicles should be cancelled are identified for updating purposes. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Information required on the recovery of the vehicles are assessed in order to decide whether to cancel the circulated vehicles. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Information regarding canceling of vehicles is assessed for capturing purposes. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Computer generated printouts are obtained in relation to the cancellation of vehicles.
     

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 5 
    Conduct enquiries and audits to support the investigation process. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Reasons why enquiries and audits about vehicles should be conducted are explained in support of the investigation process. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Audit must include but are not limited to the details about the operators who captured, updated and changed information regarding vehicles.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Methods of conducting enquiries and audits are assessed in order to select the most suitable methods supporting the investigation. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Methods must include but are not limited to audit enquiry (summary), audit enquiry - complete current and history record and vehicle enquiry.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Enquiries related to vehicles are performed to obtain vehicle information. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    The conducting of enquiry must include scenarios which includes one circulation, one update and one cancellation as well as an audit enquiry - complete current and history record, audit enquiry (summary), vehicle enquiry and combined enquiry (least amount of information).
     


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Any individual who wishes to be assessed against this unit standard (including assessment of RPL) may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA. Assessors must be competent in the outcome of the Unit Standard.
