PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
The person credited with this Unit Standard will be able to follow pre-start and start up procedures and conduct a safety meeting with crew. The learner will also be able to accelerate, decelerate and apply the appropriate braking systems as and when required. Learners will also be able to pack and un-pack the various components and zero measuring equipment according to contract specifications. The learners will also be able to set the machine controls to suit job requirements and to monitor quality as an ongoing process.

UNIT STANDARD RANGE |
A heavy on-track maintenance machine will include but is not limited to ballast regulator, ballast cleaning machine, overhead maintenance vehicle, continuous action tamper, ballast stabilizer, spoil wagons, flash butt welder, geometry machine, track construction machine, rail profiling machine, reciprocating ballast tamping machine, construction tilt wagon and desec turnout replacement machine. |
