PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
The learner will achieve competence in demonstrating knowledge of a wide variety of mechanical handling scenarios and an understanding of the functions of mobile cranes and their attachments; planning and preparing for on-site operations; supervising the movement and control of mobile cranes and the duties of the lifting team; ensuring that frequent checks and servicing are carried out before and after mobile crane operations.
The contribution to The National Skills Development Strategy is the key developmental interface between learners and new competencies to be achieved. Learners who master the applied competence described in this unit standard will contribute to the development of a professional community of mechanical handling specialists who are able to competently use science and technology when applying operation techniques. The contribution to socio-economic transformation is that learners will be able to undergo RPL-assessment and thereby receive recognition for previous learning and experience. This in turn will enhance the employability and career prospects of learners employed in this sector. |

|
REREGISTRATION HISTORY |
As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this unit standard was Reregistered in 2012; 2015. |
UNIT STANDARD NOTES |
This unit standard replaces unit standard 116978, "Conduct advanced mobile crane operations", Level 3, 20 credits.
This unit standard (SAQA ID: 116978), was previously registered as "Conduct advanced mobile crane operations" by the Civil Engineering and Construction (CEC) SGB. Reason for amendment: Recognition of Prior Learning: Credits may be obtained by applying to an accredited/approved training provider/institution in order to have prior learning recognised in lieu of past work experience. Past experience must relate to the specific outcomes contained within this unit standard. The ensuing assessment of candidates seeking recognition of prior learning should not be so onerous as to deter them from doing so. |

This information shows the current accreditations (i.e. those not past their accreditation end dates), and is the most complete record available to SAQA as of today. Some Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionaries have a lag in their recording systems for provider accreditation, in turn leading to a lag in notifying SAQA of all the providers that they have accredited to offer qualifications and unit standards, as well as any extensions to accreditation end dates. The relevant Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionary should be notified if a record appears to be missing from here. |
