PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The learner achieving this unit standard will be able to:
  • Lead colleagues in managing their work.
  • Lead colleagues in exhibiting professionalism in the practices of extension.
  • Implement and manage established systems of professional accountability in an extension unit.
  • Contribute to the development of professional standards for extension.

    In addition they will be well positioned to extend their learning and practice into leading colleagues in the evaluation and improvement of a code of conduct.

  • Manage information and knowledge refers to but is not limited to gathering, analysing, assimilating, organising, storing and retrieving, sharing/disseminating information and knowledge.
  • Range of recipients: Recipients refers to but is not limited to farmers, supervisors, scientists, communities, community leaders, learners, colleagues.
  • Credibility refers to but is not limited to acceptance by colleagues and clientele as trustworthy, reliable, responsible, and accountable in the practice of extension.
  • Rapport refers to but is not limited to a relationship between the extension practitioner and his/her clientele which is positive and demonstrates mutual respect.
  • Manage his/her own work refers to but is not limited to the ability to plan, organise, implement, control activities and work output and the information needed to do his/her own work.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • An individual wishing to be assessed, (including through RPL) against this unit standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider through the relevant ETQA by SAQA.
