A learner achieving this unit standard in extension and the related technical field will understand and apply the concepts and practices of behaviour change and innovation.

This unit standard will specifically contribute to the qualitative development of learners by providing skills and knowledge at this NQF level and takes into consideration the principles of progression and articulation.

Learners credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Apply the concept of technology adoption.
  • Apply the theories and practices of participatory technology innovation and development.
  • Identify and contextualise the extent to which influencing factors affect the final decision.
  • Establish the scope for behaviour change/innovation.
  • Develop and implement a simple intervention plan to change the behaviour of a farmer/group/community.
  • Develop and implement a simple plan to facilitate the development of technology/innovation with a farmer/group/community.

    The concept of participatory technology innovation and development is defined to enhance the participation towards change.

    The stages of participatory technology innovation are developed and explained to enhance participation towards change. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Activities within each stage are defined to enhance the logic sequence of activities in the process of change.

    Identify and contextualise the extent to which influencing factors affect the final decision towards change.

    Influencing factors includes but are not limited to culture, beliefs, religion, will/will not, can/can not, group pressure, politics.

    The context is defined and the factors identified that will influence and direct the change process.

    Factors that could hinder or support change are categorised and prioritised to direct the plan of change.

    The impact of the plan of change is measured to give an indication of progress towards change.

    Establish the scope for behaviour change/innovation to determine the extent of intervention.

    Develop and implement a simple intervention plan to change the behaviour of a individual/group/community.

    Strategies are included in the plan to reduce the effect of negative forces and enhance the effect of positive forces.

    The effectiveness of the intervention plan is measured, monitored and evaluated to determine the impact.

    Corrective measures are developed and implemented to improve the effectiveness and address deviations.

    The effectiveness of the intervention plan is measured, monitored and evaluated to measure the effect and magnitude of change.

  • An individual wishing to be assessed, (including through RPL) against this unit standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider through the relevant ETQA by SAQA.
