PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for extension personnel in the related technical field to apply the principles of extension management.

The learner achieving this unit standard in combination with other content-related unit standards will be able to express an understanding of the need for and the value in volunteerism and be able to develop strategies to recruit, select and train volunteers in the extension field.

Learners achieving this unit standard will be able to:
  • Implement strategies to recruit and select volunteers.
  • Select and appoint volunteers to suitable positions.
  • Encourage group member participation in the formulation of objectives to ensure ownership.
  • Manage volunteers in a development environment.
  • Maximise volunteer retention.

    This unit standard will specifically contribute to the qualitative development of learners by providing skills and knowledge of community dynamics and institutional support in the context of development.
