PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
This unit standard is intended for learners who are working within the medical field and are required to collect a sample for HIV testing. Before the client is given the opportunity to grant or withhold consent for the testing, a private and confidential discussion needs to take place in which information regarding HIV and AIDS and the implication of taking the test is shared.
This unit standard does not equip the learner to offer professional counselling to the client. If the need for professional counselling arises, the learner must refer the client to the appropriate professional person. Qualifying learners credited with this unit standard will be able to: |
