Learners credited with this unit standard will be able to carry out phlebotomy related tasks by applying the relevant knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.

They will also be able to progress to learning skills such as the collection of blood and non-blood specimens for pathology or blood transfusion purposes. This will enable qualifying learners to fulfill their role in the phlebotomy field thus enhancing health care delivery in the country.

Learners credited with this standard will be able to:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of anatomy related to medical pathology and blood transfusion.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the cardio-vascular system.
  • Explain medical terminology associated with medical pathology and blood transfusion.

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence in:
  • Language and communication skills at NQF Level 3.
