PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this Unit Standard will be able to apply a knowledge and comprehension of the role of the international forwarding and logistics service providers to formulate policies and procedures aimed at the assessment, appointment and development of these providers.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Identifying and assessing the needs of the current forwarding network.
  • Selecting and appointing service providers for a forwarding operation.
  • Concluding service level agreements with selected service providers.
  • Developing and maintaining operating procedures for service providers. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this qualification will be assumed competent in:
  • Communication at NQF Level 4 or equivalent.
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 4 or equivalent.
  • Communication at NQF Level 3 or equivalent in Second Language.

    A report is compiled in terms of their adequacy of the service provided.

    Recommendations made for the improvement of the provision of services.

    Select and appoint service providers for a forwarding operation.

    The criteria are drawn up for the evaluation of service providers. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    A database of service providers is compiled according to criteria. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    A standard contract is drawn up applicable to the type of service to be provided. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Proposals are sought from potential service providers. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Proposals received are evaluated against criteria and used to create a provider short list.

    Background checks and references are carried out on potential service providers.

    Conclude service level agreements with selected service providers.

    A standard operating procedure is developed in terms of the service level agreement.

    The standard operating procedure is communicated to the service provider in writing. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Service levels are monitored and recorded against the service level agreement. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Non-conformance in the provision of services are identified against the service level agreement. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Corrective and preventative action is taken to rectify non-conformance.
