This unit standard is intended for people who work in the buying/planning function of an organisation. They are responsible for ensuring stock ordered reaches the stores within the required time frame.

Persons credited with this unit standard will be capable of:
  • Identifying all the people involved in managing the flow of stock through the supply chain.
  • Managing the flow of stock through the supply chain.
  • Evaluating the performance of suppliers in terms of the flow of their stock though the supply.

    It is assumed that the learner is competent in:
  • Communication at NQF Level 4.

    The supply chain and the role-players involved in the supply chain is described as it applies to the Wholesale and Retail industry and the organisation in particular. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The role players, and their roles, involved in the management of the flow of stock though the supply chain in the organisation is identified and described. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Own role in managing the flow of stock though the supply chain is described as it applies to the individual and an organisation.

    Manage the flow of stock through the supply chain.

    The critical management and quality assurance points in the flow of stock through the supply chain is identified as it applies to an organisation.

    The critical management points and quality assurance of the supply chain applicable to own job function is identified as it applies in an organisation.

    The flow and quality of an item of merchandise through the supply chain from start to finish is tracked according to organisational requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The flow of this item of merchandise though the supply chain is evaluated and recommendation for future improvement is made.

    Evaluate the performance of suppliers in terms of the flow of their stock through the supply chain. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The standards required of the supplier are determined as they apply to applicable agreements and the flow of stock through the supply chain. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The performance of the supplier in terms of the flow of stock through the supply chain is evaluated and performance shortfalls are identified where applicable. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    A proposal to correct performance and shortfalls of suppliers and the flow of their stock through the supply chain is compiled as per the requirements of an organisation, if required.
