PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The purpose of this unit standard is to enable reports which are drawn from a gaming area to be analysed and variances commented on. The individual should develop competent usage of the appropriate policy and procedure and skills relevant to specific gambling reports. The sub-field should develop a standardised approach to reviewing and reacting to generic industry reports.

On achievement of this unit standard the learner will understand and be able to:
  • Draw and interpret a variety of gaming area reports.
  • Explain how specific reports are formulated or constructed.
  • Analyse reports.
  • Comment on notable conclusions from the analysis.
  • Forward recommendations to appropriate personnel.

    On completion of this unit standard the learner should be ready to develop learning in further processes related to improving efficiency and productivity in a gambling environment.

    The typical scope and context of this unit standard is the drawing, analysing and forwarding of regular and irregular gaming area reports in any gambling environment in South Africa. 

    Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria: 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Draw and interpret a variety of gaming area reports. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    A variety of gaming area reports are drawn in accordance with company procedure, appropriate confidentiality level, and due consideration for customers and the smooth running of operations. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Incident and shift reports are interpreted, and general as well as specific information on each correctly identified and explained. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Incident and shift reports include, but are not limited to, smart card system reports, machine performance reports, revenue reports, staff reports.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Regular reports, such as daily, weekly, monthly or other reports are interpreted, and general as well as specific information on each correctly identified and explained. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Explain how specific reports are formulated or constructed.

    Totals, sub-totals, percentages and other mathematical data on reports are explained and traced back to component parts in a logical sequence. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Headings, including dates or time periods, are discussed in a manner which shows a thorough understanding thereof. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    A variety of appropriate reports are compared with each other and differences in inputs and outputs clearly and correctly highlighted. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Input information and raw data is traced through to summary and/or exception reports in a manner which indicates knowledge of how a variety of relevant reports are formulated or constructed.

    Recommendations are made, based on comments and conclusions drawn from the analysis of a gaming report. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Recommendations include those in response to the content of the report, as well as to the format, timing, relevance, distribution list, confidentiality and formulation of the report.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    A distribution list and/or appropriate and relevant personnel are identified as potential recipients of the analysis and recommendations, as well as the report. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The analysis and recommendations, and the report, are forwarded to all or part of the identified distribution list, with due regard to timing, urgency and confidentiality. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Policy and procedure are correctly followed in terms of company procedure to fulfil administrative and other relevant requirements in terms of gaming reports and the analysis thereof.
