PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
This unit standard is intended for a person who has to participate in optimisation, productivity and quality improvement programmes in a tissue conversion operation.

A person credited with this unit standard is able to:
  • Understand the variables that affect process optimisation.
  • Monitor and take corrective action to improve production efficiency.
  • Assess basic productivity improvement options.
  • Participate in efficiency and quality improvement programmes.

This will ensure that the productivity and quality of a tissue conversion operation is maintained in accordance with safe and accepted work practices. This competence will enhance the learner's employability and career options in all occupations where knowledge of productivity and quality is needed.

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
    Description of required skills:
  • Communication and mathematical literacy, NQF Level 3.
  • Persons attempting this unit standard are required to read, understand and interpret textbooks of a technical nature.

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE
The context of this unit standard includes a complete tissue conversion process including final packing operations if in-line packaging is performed. Processes included are diaper conversion, femcare product conversion, roll tissue conversion and cut tissue conversion.

The level assigned to this unit standard is appropriate because the process requires a wide range of cognitive skills and offers a considerable choice of methodologies. A broad knowledge base incorporating some theoretical concepts, analytical interpretation of information, informed judgement and a range of sometime innovative responses to concrete but often unfamiliar problems are employed.
