PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is intended for a person who has to set up a tissue conversion operation.

A person credited with this unit standard is able to:
  • Understand the importance of setting up the process correctly.
  • Set up the process in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Communicate and record process settings and adjustments made.
  • Verify pre-start-up conditions.

    This will ensure that the set-up of a tissue conversion operation is performed in accordance with safe and accepted work practices. This competence will enhance the learner's employability and career options in all occupations where knowledge of the set-up of a conversion line is needed.

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    The context of this unit standard includes a complete tissue conversion process including final packing operations if in-line packaging is performed. Processes included are diaper conversion, femcare product conversion, roll tissue conversion and cut tissue conversion.

    The level assigned to this unit standard is appropriate because the process requires a wide range of technical skills and offers a considerable choice of procedures. A broad knowledge base incorporating some theoretical concepts, analytical interpretation of information, informed judgement and a range of sometime innovative responses to concrete but often unfamiliar problems are employed.

    Differentiation is made between advanced or critical settings and general machine settings.

    The reasons for each setting in the set-up of the equipment are explained in accordance with standard workplace procedures.

    The specified set-up methods and the consequences of not adhering to these are explained in terms of own workplace. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Non-adherence to the specified operating parameters is explained with regards to the consequences to the tissue conversion operation.

    The optimal operating set-up for the process is explained in terms of own workplace.
