PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
This unit will enable learners to have an elementary understanding of the maritime and airward environment. Learners will obtain knowledge regarding the structure and features of ports as they pertain to both the maritime and airward environment. Learners will also be familiar with terminology used in both these sectors. This unit standard will enable learners to identify ships and aircraft for various purposes.

Qualifying learners will be able to:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of terminology used in the maritime and airward environment.
  • Assess structure of ports.
    > Range: Structure refers to but is not limited to the layout and facilities in airports, ports and harbours.
  • Assess the features of shipbuilding.
    > Range: Features refers to but is not limited to the phases of ship building and the ship building yard.
  • Recognise aircraft and ships.

PROVIDERS CURRENTLY ACCREDITED TO OFFER THIS UNIT STANDARD:
This information shows the current accreditations (i.e. those not past their accreditation end dates), and is the most complete record available to SAQA as of today. Some Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionaries have a lag in their recording systems for provider accreditation, in turn leading to a lag in notifying SAQA of all the providers that they have accredited to offer qualifications and unit standards, as well as any extensions to accreditation end dates. The relevant Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionary should be notified if a record appears to be missing from here.
