PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for learners who have to demonstrate the ability to monitor, report and advise on the safety principles pertaining to the transport of raw material, goods, product, live stock, passengers and equipment.

Persons credited with this unit standard will be capable of:
  • Describing the current safety legislation applicable to any transport management system.
  • Applying the Safety, Health and Environmental aspects when handling and transporting raw material, goods, product, livestock, passengers and equipment. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
  • Communication at NQF Level 4.
  • Mathematical literacy at NQF Level 4.

    Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria: 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Describe the current safety legislation applicable to any transport management system. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Current safety legislation includes, but is not limited to, pertinent sections of relevant Acts, By-Laws, Maintenance Procedures, Handling Protocols and Records. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Safety principles required for any transport management system are explained in terms of the current legislation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Safety principles pertaining to a transport management system are applied to a selected transport management system. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Apply Safety, Health and Environmental requirements when handling and transporting raw materials, goods, products, livestock, passengers and equipment. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The different precautionary measures regarding the safe operating and handling of transport mechanisms are explained to confirm the application thereof. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Mechanisms refers to all types of transport as well as all means of loading and offloading all raw materials, goods, products, livestock, passengers and equipment.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The safety, health and environmental aspects of all transport mechanisms are explained according to each type. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Safety, health and environmental requirements for transport mechanisms are applied to at least two of the types in the given range.

  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding in place with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider through the relevant ETQA or ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding in place with the relevant ETQA.
  • Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA or ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding in place with the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines and the agreed ETQA procedures.
