PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
This unit standard will enable qualifying learners to produce a digital and analogue mosaic in different contexts such as earth observation, intelligence, geo-sciences, geohydrology, archaeology, mapping of watersheds and environmental management. Learners will understand the production of an analogue and digital mosaic using image plotting. Learners will be able to apply the competencies outlined in this unit standard in different environments such as military, industry, law enforcement and mapping and surveying environments.
Qualifying learners will be able to: |

Mosaics include but are not limited to controlled mosaics and uncontrolled mosaics. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 |
Analogue images are cut utilising cutting tools and techniques whilst maintaining the emulsion and minimising distortion. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 |
Analogue images are torn whilst maintaining the emulsion and minimising distortion. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 |
Analogue images are pasted together whilst maintaining the emulsion and minimising distortion. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 |
Mosaic furniture are added according to the client's specifications. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE |
Furniture includes but is not limited to area name, north arrow, grid lines and scale line. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 |
Scale lines are drafted using the line scale formula. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 |
Analogue mosaics are eliminated to clean debris causing impurities during reproduction. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 7 |
Analogue mosaic is trimmed for reproduction to the total area required. |
SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 |
Produce a digital mosaic. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 |
Digital images are geo-referenced according to the geographical position on the earth. |

PROVIDERS CURRENTLY ACCREDITED TO OFFER THIS UNIT STANDARD: |
This information shows the current accreditations (i.e. those not past their accreditation end dates), and is the most complete record available to SAQA as of today. Some Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionaries have a lag in their recording systems for provider accreditation, in turn leading to a lag in notifying SAQA of all the providers that they have accredited to offer qualifications and unit standards, as well as any extensions to accreditation end dates. The relevant Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionary should be notified if a record appears to be missing from here. |
