PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A person credited with this unit standard can ensure that administrative and security procedures and hygiene standards are complied with when receiving, storing and issuing goods in the workplace.

On achievement of this unit standard the learner will understand and be able to:
  • Explain the relevant legislation and codes of practise relating to storage conditions and handling of goods.
  • Describe and implement the company's stock control procedure.
  • Describe and use the company's recording systems for the receipt and issue of goods.
  • Handle and store stock according to legislation and best practice.

    Explain the relevant legislation and codes of practise relating to storage conditions and handling of goods.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Any legislation relating and codes of good practice to the handling and storage of goods in a specific organisation are identified with a view to ensuring compliance. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Details the relevant legislation and codes of practice relating to the handling of goods in the organisation are explained with practical examples of how compliance is being assured. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    An explanation is given of the consequences for the organisation of non-compliance with the relevant legislation and codes of practice pertaining to the storage and handling of hazardous and non hazardous goods. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The organisational procedures for quality checks of a range of products used in the organisation are explained with an indication of why the checks are necessary. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The organisation's procedures regarding hygiene, quality and security procedures in the receipt and handling of goods are explained focusing on legislative and best practice compliance.

    The stock control procedures of a specific organisation are explained for the range of goods it handles. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The documentation to be used for the range of stock control procedures in an organisation are identified and used according to organisational policy and procedure. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The organisational procedures for the rotation of stock is explained focussing on the reasons for doing it. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Procedures may include:
  • Shelf life and expiry dates.

    The company's stock control procedure is implemented by adhering to the relevant systems.

    A description is given of the recording formats used in the organisation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The need for reconciling stock on hand with stock records is explained in terms of eliminating shrinkage and maintaining optimal stock records. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Goods delivered are checked against delivery notes, invoices and purchase orders and discrepancies and deviations dealt with according to organisational policy and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Stock information is recorded and stored according to organisational policy and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Information relating to the receipt, storing and issuing of goods is distributed to relevant persons according to organisational procedures.

    Receiving areas are inspected and checked for compliance with relevant legislation and health and safety requirements.

  • An individual wishing to be assessed against this unit standard for the purposes of achieving credits, including through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution recognised for assessment purposes by the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance body (ETQA), or one with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA, or one with an MOU with the relevant ETQA.
