PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The learner credited with this unit standard will be able to plan and create a product movement forecast according to client's requirements, thereby ensuring the timeous, safe and continuous operation of the pipeline network by transporting petroleum products efficiently, thus contributing positively to the Southern African economy.

It is assumed that learners are already competent in the following:

    Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria: 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Prepare for the forecasting of product movements through the pipeline network. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Client's future orders are obtained and volumes verified to determine deviations from the norm. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Product heads from previous forecast are interpreted to assist in the determination of deviations. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Product heads are plotted and captured on the diagram to ensure alignment for the new forecast. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Sub-standard conditions pertaining to the forecasting of product movements through the pipeline network are identified and reported to relevant role players timeously.

    Plan a product movement forecast.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Starting point of pipeline operations forecast is determined to ensure optimal pipeline utilization. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Start up time, the flow rate, the supply and delivery client/depot, sequence of injection.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Problems relating to client orders, planning and pipeline constraints are identified and reported to relevant role players and resolved timeously.

    Draw and label a product movement forecast.

    A detailed forecast is drawn by utilising information from the cycle sheets. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Relevant detailed information is inserted/captured on the forecast. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Product specific colour codes, slug numbers, times, dates, flow rates and volumes.

    The information of the forecast is verified for correctness.

    Calculations of starting and stopping times, arrival of intermixtures at depots, product volumes, line displacements, etc.

  • Slug refers to a parcel or batch of product.
  • Slug number refers to a label allocated to a slug.
  • Product heads refer to the current positions of the starting points of different products in the flow direction of the pipeline.
