PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners credited with this unit standard are able to understand the need to use a variety of facilities to program recreation activities, ensure maintenance of facilities, equipment, and environment for the safe us by all participants, and understand the need for specific staffing requirements in a recreation organization.

On completion of this unit standard the qualifying learner will be able to:
  • Identify different types of facilities for the delivery of a recreation programme or service.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of equipment and facilities.
  • Understand staffing and staffing structures and the basic human resources policy in a recreation organization.

  • Prerequisite - completion of unit standard: 243616: "Identify and manage hazards and risks in relation to a recreation activity and environment", NQF Level 4.
  • Learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence in Numeracy and Literacy at NQF Level 3 or equivalent.

    Identify different types of facilities for the delivery of a recreation programme or service.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The potential areas for recreation programming and services are identified and described. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Community halls, open space, parks, mountains, rivers, swimming pools, lakes, forests, sports fields.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    To improve access to the facility for the differently abled, the environment must be appraised and modified accordingly. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Illustrate the proper procedures in the maintenance of equipment and facilities.

  • Maintenance includes - cleaning specifications, building repairs, equipment.
  • Equipment includes - sporting and recreational equipment, fire extinguishers, tools, machinery.

    Describe the storage and cleaning of sporting and recreation equipment. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Organize a schedule for the maintenance of all other equipment.

    Prepare a checklist for cleaning of facility and equipment.

    Understand staffing and staffing structures and the basic human resources policy in a recreation organization.
