PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for persons working in the field of exports. The learner is able to establish an export sales plan.

A person credited with this unit standard is able to:
  • Set sales targets and performance objectives.
  • Decide on/design an appropriate sales structure.
  • Set up a sales human resources plan and HR development strategy.
  • Design an appropriate order processing system.
  • Conclude export sales contracts. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that learners are competent in:
  • Communication Literacy at NQF level 4.
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF level 4.
  • Computer Literacy at NQF level 4. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    This unit standard is intended for learners who will obtain a solid knowledge base relating to exports and have a sound understanding of the key terms, rules, concepts, principles and theories. The learner will be able to select and apply central procedures and will have the ability to solve well defined, but unfamiliar problems.

    An export sales plan is developed according to different export marketing objectives.

    Design an export order processing system. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Systems, policies and procedures are developed to receive an enquiry, conduct a feasibility study, calculate an appropriate price and prepare a quotation as they relate to the sales plan. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Systems, policies and procedures are developed to liaise with production in connection with the customer's requirements as they relate to the sales plan. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Systems, policies and procedures are developed to establish a possible despatch date for the goods as they relate to the sales plan. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Systems, policies and procedures are developed to investigate the credit-worthiness of the importer and to negotiate the method of payment as they relate to the sales plan. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Systems, policies and procedures are developed to forward the quotation to the prospective buyer and follow up in due course as they relate to the sales plan. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    Systems, policies and procedures are developed to receive and acknowledge receipt of the customer's order, check against the quotation and where appropriate issue contract of sale. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Conclude export purchase and sales orders.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The importance and implications of an export purchase and sales order are explained as they relate to different sales plans. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The needs of the client are assessed to assist with the development of the different sales plans. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    A pro-forma order is drawn up and submitted to the client according to the sales plan. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Adaptations are effected in terms of client's requests and company policy. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The sales order is produced informed by the sales plan. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Included but not limited to reference numbers, date, buyer, seller, intermediary (where applicable), description of goods, quantities, price, extension, Incoterms, delivery address, method of payment, standard trading conditions, credit terms, mode of transport, forwarder/carrier and tariff heading.
     


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or an ETQA where a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) exists with the relevant ETQA.
