PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to load/unload dangerous goods for transportation by road. Learners are also able to complete required documentation regarding declaration and comply with South African National Standards 10231 requirements and organisational operational procedures and requirements.

A person credited with this unit standard is capable of:
  • Adhering to standard operating procedures and applicable requirements of South African National Standards 10231 for the loading/unloading of packaged goods and bulk.
  • Identifying required placards, tremcards and dangerous goods declaration.
  • Complying with standard operating procedures and South African National Standards 10231 after loading/unloading of dangerous goods.
  • Complying with contents of operational agreement.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Adhere to standard operating procedures and applicable requirements of South African National Standards 10231 for the loading/unloading of packaged goods and bulk. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Relevant procedure for the loading/unloading of packaged and/or bulk is identified for the various types of transport. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The standard operating procedures for the loading/unloading of packed goods and bulk are explained and described as per South African National Standards requirements. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Identify required danger warning diamond, warning placards, tremcards and dangerous goods declaration. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The relevant documentation is obtained and verified according to South African National Standards codes of practice, International Maritime Dangerous Goods and International Civil Aviation Organisation codes, and national legislation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Relevant placards for packaged goods and bulk are identified and described according to South African National Standards code of practice. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Personal Protective Equipment requirements are identified, explained and described as it relates to the loading/unloading of packaged goods and bulk. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Comply with standard operating procedures and South African National Standards 10231 after loading/unloading of dangerous goods.

    Safety procedures are adhered to in the loading/unloading of dangerous goods.
