PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is intended for Managers and learners who manage asset risk in insurance and other organisations including Underwriters and Surveyors.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Describing potential safety risks in a business environment.
  • Applying the risk management process to a specific organisation in order to minimise safety risk.
  • Proposing a safety plan for an organisation.
  • Describing the controls necessary to maintain a safe work environment.

    LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that learners are competent in Communication and Mathematical Literacy at Level 3. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    The typical scope of this Unit Standard is:
  • Environ risks include but are not limited to lighting, work conditions, pollution, pesticides, money on site and ergo dynamics.
  • Human safety risks include but are not limited to an operator or person in the work environment and effects on health and welfare.
  • Physical safety risks include but are not limited to machine, product stacking, processes, safety features and canteens.

    The potential risk is quantified in terms of severity and probability.

    A safety audit is conducted at a selected organisation in order to identify deficiencies in the safety management system.

    Measures to remedy deficiencies are suggested for physical, human and environment safety.

    A possible implementation strategy is devised for a selected organisation.

    Different safety administration systems are compared for effectiveness in creating and preserving evidence.

    The operating risk standards of an organisation are analysed to determine the effectiveness of the safety management plan with reference to human, physical and environment safety.

  • Anyone assessing a candidate against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or ETQA where a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) exists with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this Unit Standard must be accredited as a provider through the relevant ETQA or ETQA where a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) exists with the relevant ETQA.
  • Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines and the agreed ETQA procedures.
