PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
People in the field of manufacturing and engineering require the skills, values and knowledge reflected in this unit standard. The learning outcomes in this unit standard also contribute to the exit level outcomes required for various manufacturing and engineering qualifications.
The learner is capable of installing the various types of sub-components on passenger and light delivery vehicles in accordance with workshop and manufacturers specifications. The learner is also capable to prepare the sub-component for storage. This will contribute to the exit level outcomes required for the National Certificate in maintaining vehicles and related qualifications. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
This unit standard has been designed as part of a progression. It is one of a series of unit standards for maintaining vehicles in the field of manufacturing and engineering. It is assumed that the learner has already learned the use of engineering hand tools, power tools, automobile lifting equipment, workshop tools and measuring equipment to maintain a safe and productive working environment.

All work is performed under supervision at regular intervals and according to workplace and workshop manual specifications and occupational safety, health and environmental legislation.

  • Test operation includes checking for system level fluids and lubrication at lubricating points and sub-component operation prior to start up.
