PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners' who are assessed as competent against this unit standard will be able to clad a roof structure in accordance with roof plan drawing specifications as required for houses of basic design ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with National Building Regulations, Occupational Health and Safety legislation and within prescribed time frames

The competencies contained in this unit standard complement the other building competencies that make up this qualification and will contribute to the development of professional Community House Builders who are able to use Science and Technology in a responsible and cost-effective manner. It should result in improved quality and service delivery in community house building. These competencies should result in improved quality and service delivery in community house building.

The contribution to The National Skills Development Strategy is the key developmental interface between Learners' and new competencies to be achieved.

This unit standard will provide Learners' with access to the National Certificate in Construction Carpentry - NQF Level 3.

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
The competencies specified in this unit standard are applicable to the construction of houses that are rectangular in shape and it is within this context that the learner is required to demonstrate competent performance.

Scaffolding is limited to ladders and trestles.

Roof cladding is limited to corrugated galvanised sheeting and corrugated fibre cement sheeting.
