PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
Learners' who are assessed as competent against this unit standard will be able to erect, connect and clad light steel frames that have been treated to prevent corrosion, install appropriate insulation where required and build brick/block work into light steel frames in accordance with the design and construction methods specified in working drawings for houses of a basic design ensuring that the applicable National Building standards, health and safety regulations and prescribed time frames are adhered to.

The competencies contained in this unit standard will provide Community House Builders with an area of specialisation that will lead to the development of enhanced skills and knowledge amongst professional Community House Builders who are able to offer alternative construction methods to meet a wider range of needs and purposes of potential home builders within the community. It should result in improved quality and service delivery in community house building.

The contribution to The National Skills Development Strategy is the key developmental interface between Learners' and new competencies to be achieved.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

    UNIT STANDARD CCFO IDENTIFYING
Identify and solve problems and make decisions using critical and creative thinking:
  • Compare the advantages and disadvantages of light steel frame works with brick walls when discussing building methods that will meet the needs of potential home builders within the community

  • UNIT STANDARD CCFO WORKING
Work effectively with others as a member of a team, group, organisation or community:
  • Co-operate with concrete workers to ensure that dimensions of the concrete slab and steel frame walls correspond and that the concrete slab is level.

  • UNIT STANDARD CCFO COLLECTING
Collect, analyse, organise and critically evaluate information:
