PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
This standard is aimed at people who work or intend to work within a process or manufacturing operation.

Those learners who acquire the outcomes of this standard will know about and be able to apply sampling theory and practice in the chemical industry. This has application for individuals in production, laboratory or research and development environments, who are required to take samples. It is also relevant to quality assurance.

The qualifying learner is able to:
  • Explain the purpose of sampling and scientific and technical basis upon which sampling is based
  • Take a variety of samples in a process or process related environment
  • Evaluate sampling as practiced in a process or process related environment.

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
Learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence against the following or the equivalent unit standards Describe chemical process operations and related process chemistry used in the chemical industry .Maintaining health, hygiene and safety in a chemical environment and Demonstrating and understanding of quality principles used in the chemical industry.
