PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
Learners who are assessed as competent against this unit standard will be able to demonstrate a broad understanding of the generic elements associated with best carpentry practice including the interpretation of drawings, use and maintenance of tools, machines and equipment and the application of materials in accordance with National Building Regulations, Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and best practice standards for carpentry work.
This competence lays the foundation for the development of core carpentry competencies and supports and enhances the other carpentry competencies. The generic competencies outlined in this unit standard should facilitate portability of carpentry skills across different contexts within the construction industry. It contributes to the development of a professional community of Carpentry practitioners. The contribution to The National Skills Development Strategy is the key developmental interface between learners and new competencies to be achieved. |
