PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The purpose of this unit standard is to enable construction painters to coat and finish all types of surfaces. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
FETC NQF Level 2 literacy and numeracy competencies; Unit Standards 9. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Coatings include paint and varnish.
  • Finishing includes polishing and the use of lime wash, polyurethane, cellulose, two-pack epoxy materials, etc.
  • Thickness of coat application is per manufacturer specification.

    Accreditation Process and Moderation:

    Assessment of learner achievements takes place at providers accredited by CETA (RSA, 1998 b) for the provision of programs that result in the outcomes specified for the Certificate for Construction painters. CETA is responsible for moderation of learner achievements of learners who meet the requirements of this unit standard.
