PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
This unit standard has been developed for the surveying occupational area and is intended for persons who aim to achieve career advancement by gaining surveying skills leading to a qualification based on unit standards. A person who has successfully completed this unit standard is able to apply map and related spatial information skills for decision-making in the workplace.

1. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
2. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard or will assess this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA and registered with FE / HE registrar. 3. Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures. Scenario Planning This exercise is geared towards applying the spatial information available to a specific given situation. The situation should be constructed so as to reflect a real-life situation as closely as possible. Alternatively, a real-life situation can be used. These situations should further be constructed to suit the training needs of the participants. Scenario Learners are supplied with 2 or 3 alternative locations on a topographic map for possible intensive vegetable farming. They must motivate their preferred choice of location and contrast it with the remaining locations. This scenario challenges learners to apply their knowledge of spatial information to problem-solving issues related to land-use. A written or oral report back on the findings must be presented.
