PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard forms part of the Qualification, National Certificate in Funeral Services Practice and is registered at Level 5 on the National Qualifications Framework. Learners working towards this standard will be learning towards the full qualification, or will be involved in or working within a funeral services environment, specialising in Embalming, Marketing and Merchandising or Disaster Management, where the acquisition of competence against this standard will add value to each individual and the Funeral Industry as a whole.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Controlling all aspects with regard to preparation of a funeral
  • Evaluating and dealing with problems in the preparation of human remains. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this qualification, will have demonstrated competency in
  • Numeracy at NQF Level 4 or equivalent.
  • English, verbal and written communication at NQF Level 4 or equivalent.

    3. Dress codes of grave side attendants is monitored.

    4. Deviations and exceptions are identified and remedial action taken to rectify.

    5. Funeral site preparations is evaluated against organisational standards. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Evaluate and critique funeral preparations.

    1. Interaction with the family during and after the funeral is observed and evaluated.

    2. Non-conformance is identified and remedial action taken within agreed time frames.

    3. Lessons learned are identified and recorded for future reference.

    4. Post funeral actions are taken according to requirements and are completed within the laid down time frames.

    Post funeral actions will include reward, compliments, revising, training, disciplinary actions.
