PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard forms part of the Qualification, National Certificate in Funeral Services Practice and is registered at Level 3 on the National Qualifications Framework. Learners working towards this standard will be learning towards the full qualification, or will be involved in or working within a funeral services environment, specialising in Embalming, Marketing and Merchandising or Disaster Management, where the acquisition of competence against this standard will add value to each individual and the Funeral Industry as a whole.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Checking funeral vehicle, materials and equipment
  • Transferring of human remains locally and long distance
  • Transporting the bereaved 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competency in:
  • Numeracy at NQF Level 2 or equivalent.
  • English, verbal and written communication at NQF Level 2 or equivalent.

    Check funeral vehicle, materials and equipment 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    1. Funeral vehicle is checked for roadworthiness 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Funeral vehicles includes hearses, delivery and collecting vehicle
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. Defects are recorded and reported to relevant authorised individuals within agreed time frames

    3. Materials and equipment for transferring human remains are identified, checked and placed in vehicle 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Materials and equipment for transferring human remains will include stretchers, plastic lining, sheets, blankets, stretcher covers, body bags, map book, torch, air freshener, gloves, masks, protective clothing, coffins

    4. Materials and equipment are secured in vehicle

    5. Log books are completed as per established procedures

    2. Documentation authorising transfer/pick-up of human remains are obtained

    3. Road traffic ordinance and instructions adhered to while driving 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. Human remains are placed in funeral vehicle and properly secured according to organisational requirements 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    5. Human remains are delivered at correct location and within set time frames 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    6. Identifying of human remains is checked and verified
