PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard forms part of the Qualification, National Certificate in Funeral Services Practice and is registered at Level 4 on the National Qualifications Framework. Learners working towards this standard will be learning towards the full qualification, or will be involved in or working within a funeral services environment, specialising in Embalming, Marketing and Merchandising or Disaster Management, where the acquisition of competence against this standard will add value to each individual and the Funeral Industry as a whole.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Controlling vehicle usage
  • Assessing the transfer of human remains
  • Monitoring the transportation of the bereaved

    Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competency in:
  • Numeracy at NQF Level 3 or equivalent.
  • English, verbal and written communication at NQF Level 3 or equivalent.

    1.Roadworthiness of funeral vehicles is monitored and verified. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Funeral vehicles includes hearses, delivery and collecting vehicles, mourners' cars.

    2.Repairs and maintenance to funeral vehicles is organised.

    3.Authorisation for expenditure for repairs is obtained.

    4.Instructions for vehicle usage are issued to relevant individuals within agreed time frames.

    2.Materials and equipment required for the transportation of human remains are checked and verified.

    Materials and equipment include road maps, documents, stretcher/coffin, body bags, disinfectant, gloves, protective clothing.

    3.Instructions regarding the transfer of human remains are given to relevant individuals.

    4.Identification of human remains is checked and verified to prevent incorrect human remains being transferred.

    4.Dress code is monitored to ensure compliance with organisational requirements.

    5.Materials and equipment for funeral vehicle is checked and verified.
