In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.

This unit standard does not replace any other unit standard and is not replaced by any other unit standard.

PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
This unit standard is for people involved with various forms of 2-dimensional representations of the environment. People credited with this unit standard are able to apply lines of sight to make decisions about the placement of objects and the effect of movement by the observer and the object on the view, draw simple objects in various forms, and explain information in photographs and drawings in terms of shape, length, direction, angles and views.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
'Describe, analyse interpret and represent the environment in terms of location, shape and motion'.

UNIT STANDARD RANGE
Application to and analysis of drawings, pictures, photographs and the environment.

Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria:

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1
Apply lines of sight to make decisions about the placement of objects.
OUTCOME NOTES
Apply lines of sight to make decisions about the placement of objects and the effect of movement by the observer and the object on the view.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
1. Lines of sight are straight and take into account the layout of the situation.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
2. Conclusions about the placement of objects are consistent with information derived from lines of sight and take into account the effect of movement by the observer and the object on the view.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
3. Conclusions about whether objects can be seen from a given point of view are consistent with information derived from lines of sight.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2
Draw simple objects.
OUTCOME NOTES
Draw simple objects and demonstrate understanding of the relationship between 3-dimensional objects and 2-dimensional representations of objects.
OUTCOME RANGE
Drawing of objects include in perspective and parallel projection and different views of simple, regular objects.
Objects include cubes, cuboids and cylinders.
Drawings are real size and to scale.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
1. Drawings adequately depict perspective.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
2. The scale of the perspective of drawings is consistent with the object.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
3. Relationships between 3-dimensional objects and 2-dimensional views of objects are depicted and explained in terms of common parts, locations and views.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
4. The two-dimensional representation of the object is consistent with its three-dimensional characteristics.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5
5. Views from different viewing sites are consistent with the shape of the object from that view.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6
6. Scales are used consistently and facilitate clear representation of the object.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3
Explain information in photographs and drawings.
OUTCOME RANGE
Information relates to shape, length, direction, angles and views.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
1. Information is described in terms of relative sizes, positions, perspectives, and obscured parts of objects.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
2. Shapes of items are described in terms of the geometry of shapes.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
3. The relative positions of objects are described in terms of angles between them on a plane.

UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS

PROVIDERS CURRENTLY ACCREDITED TO OFFER THIS UNIT STANDARD:
This information shows the current accreditations (i.e. those not past their accreditation end dates), and is the most complete record available to SAQA as of today. Some Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionaries have a lag in their recording systems for provider accreditation, in turn leading to a lag in notifying SAQA of all the providers that they have accredited to offer qualifications and unit standards, as well as any extensions to accreditation end dates. The relevant Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionary should be notified if a record appears to be missing from here.
