This unit standard is for people who select and mark for coppice reduction.

  • Prepare for coppice reduction.
  • Reduce coppice.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Prepare for coppice reduction. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Purpose of reduction is explained in terms of the effect the reduction will have on crop growth, access and the final product. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    More light better growth, ease of movement and increased MAI for final product.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Hazards and their influences are explained and their effect minimised. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Terrain, falling stems, thorns, weather conditions and safe working distance.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Personal protective equipment is used according to company policy and/or legal requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Equipment is selected appropriately for the task at hand. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Equipment is inspected for serviceability and corrective action taken in line with company specific procedures.

    Stems to be removed are identified according to specific company practises and procedures. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Stub height, orientation of coppice on stump, coppice point on stump, coppice cut through when removed, correct amount of stems to be left for prescribed coppice reduction.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Equipment is maintained in a functional condition during and after task. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Waste spreading techniques are adhered to, to ensure crop health. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Broadcast, rows, blocks, next to road.
