    The use of types of equipment is demonstrated according to manufacturing specifications. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The use of types of chemicals utilised in reproduction of imprints are described according to manufacturing specifications. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Demonstrate understanding of the identification and protection of imprints found on crime scenes. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Imprints refer to but is not limited to foot, hand, vehicle and animal prints.

    Imprints are identified within the context of a crime scene.

    Methods in which imprints are secured and protected in a crime scene are demonstrated in order to facilitate future use in an investigation.

    The reasons why possible entry points to a crime scene are identified and analysed are explained in order to protect imprints.

    Imprint reproduction equipment is used in a controlled scenario.

    Equipment may include but is not limited to: steel strips, mediums and fluids.

    Book entries and particulars of plaster cast are compared to ensure that both correspond. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Plaster cast equipment is cleaned and stored according to manufacturers specifications. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Evidence of reproduction process at crime scene is protected in order to ensure the chain of evidence.

    Prepare a court chart. 
    OUTCOME NOTES 
    Court charts are mainly used when reproduction of imprints is used as evidence in a court of law.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Reproduced imprint is photographed according to organizational prescripts. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Organizational prescripts refer to the place where photographs is taken, e.g. LCRS (Local Criminal Record Center).
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Control sample (actual exhibit) is photographed according to organizational prescripts. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Identical marks on the photo of the reproduced imprint are indicated on a court chart with exact correspondence to the control sample (actual exhibit).

  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this Unit Standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
